This client's server shut down unexpectedly so they called me out for an emergency repair and assessment. I arrived on site, opened the server and found a massive buildup of dust on one of the circuit boards inside their server, specifically the backplane. The dust and humidity had allowed electricity to travel from one motherboard component to another and caused the part to fail. This completely halted their operation for an entire day while I scrambled to find another backplane, then replaced it and remained on site to ensure that everything was working okay again. This client was very lucky that I was able to find a part on the same day. Normally the order for a replacement is two weeks. With a regular maintenance service provider (MSP) agreement, this would never happen!
